For many years, the three Volusia Audubon clubs participated in the Tomoka Regional Science and Engineering Fair with the Volusia County Schools. We provide Special Awards judges and cash prizes to students who have the best projects in our area of interest - environmental, conservation, alternative energy, climate change, etc. This year’s judges were Steve Underwood (HRAS), Eli Schaperow (WVAS), and Don Picard (SEVAS).
The winners were: Senior 1st: Jessica Hanflink and Taylor Young (Team) “Can Lithium Hydroxide be used as an effective substance to neutralize dissolved CO2 in salt water to mitigate ocean acidification?”
Senior 2nd: Aubrey Heiss “King Tides”
Junior 1st: Rita Gupta “What plant is most beneficial to water filtration in the Tomoka River?”
Junior 2nd: Cody McCaffety “The dissolved oxygen dilemma”
