Welcome to The Skimmer Newsletter!

Research in 2019 by “Cornell’s Lab of Ornithology and Canada’s National Wildlife Research Centre found that bird population in the USA and Canada have declined by 29% for a total net loss of 3 billion birds since 1970.”

This is a warning to all of us. A warning that Southeast Volusia Audubon Society (aka SEVAS) here in New Smyrna Beach takes very seriously, and works very hard at spreading the word that birds and their environment are desperately in need of our close attention.

So it is that between the months of November and April our SEVAS chapter (a chapter of Florida Audubon) is quite busy holding monthly speaker events, scheduling birding field trips, engaging in environmental projects and educating the public to raise awareness of our mission to “Protect Birds and their Habitat”.

One of many ways SEVAS gets the word out is to publish a monthly newsletter — The Skimmer — that tells our stories about how we are committed to doing our part and keeps readers informed about our activities on behalf of the birds. And hopefully, encourages others to join us in our mission. Read recent issues by clicking below!
