This Thursday! We’ll meet at 450PM to access our buggies, and depart promptly at 5PM. The par-69 course layout offers the right amount of fun and challenge for all golfers, but it’s also known for wildlife. A proud home to osprey, various ducks, sandhill cranes, roseate spoonbills and bald eagles, ao we’ll enjoy the habitat and avian species.

After birding, we’ll gather for a bite and maybe a pint, at The 19th Hole.

Dress for the weather, bring water, bug spray, hat, sunglasses, optics.

This Friday! With help from St John’s River Water Management District and Orange Audubon, we’ll access remote areas and wetlands not covered by the Wildlife Drive. We’ll bird the Apopka Beauclair Canal, loop around Clay Island, and see what March on the North Shore has in mind.
Bring a lunch, water, bug spray, hat, sunglasse, dress for the weather.

Alan Shapiro from Orange Audubon and Ben Gugliotti from SJRWMD will be our local guides, accompanied by our SEVAS guide, Don Chalfant.

SEVAS NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

Want to take better photos of the natural world—but feel unsure as to how to use all those camera settings?

Join us for a two-part Nature Photography Class led by local photographer and birder David Baker, designed for all skill levels and all camera types—from iPhones to point-and-shoots to DSLR and mirrorless cameras. Open to all.

Instructor: David Baker
Dates: Thursdays, February 19 & 26
Time: 9–11am both days
Location: Marine Discovery Center
(lecture hall + outdoor grounds)

Each session includes:
45–60 minutes of illustrated lecture, theory, and discussion, then
1-hour hands-on practice in the field.

Session 1: Get to Know Your Camera

Learn the three core elements of photography—shutter speed, aperture, and ISO—and how they work together in different lighting conditions. Then take your camera outside and practice controlling these settings in real time.

Session 2: Elements of Style

Explore lighting, composition, depth of field, natural framing, leading lines, and the difference between portraits and action shots. You’ll put these ideas into practice immediately during guided outdoor shooting.

Workshop limit: 25 participants.
Cost: $20 members, $25 non-members.

Join SEVAS in Debary for a cruise on the scenic St. Johns River! We’ll get out on the water for a bird-focused jaunt, led by St. Johns River Eco Tours. Enjoy a relaxed morning and outstanding opportunities to see wading birds, raptors, and river wildlife up close. The majority of this journey will be exploring the back waters on board an eco-friendly 35 foot hybrid gas/electric pontoon boat.
