Motus Wildlife Tracking Station
Connecting New Smyrna Beach to a
Global Migration Network
What It Is
The Motus Wildlife Tracking System is an international research network that tracks birds and other wildlife using tiny radio transmitters.
SEVAS installed the Motus station in 2025, expanding migration research capacity in Central Florida.
Why It Matters
Migratory species depend on healthy stopover sites. Motus data helps scientists understand:
• Migration routes
• Stopover timing
• Survival patterns
• Habitat use
This information guides conservation decisions locally and across continents.
Local Impact
• Supports research across the Atlantic Flyway
• Enhances conservation decision-making
• Engages community science
• Recognized with Audubon Florida’s 2025 Outstanding Conservation Project Award
This is cutting-edge conservation happening right here at home.
